These are cheap and easy tips that work.
The obvious first steps are to blast your email address book, post on discussion boards and "blogs" and join every relevant group on the internet and discuss (y)our event. If you spend a couple hours doing this and do it long before your event, protest, etc. you probably will not need to do much else. Word spreads FAST. Ask people to post your info for you as well. Add it to your email signature. Don't forget a good subject line in email. Create a banner and exchange banners with other sites. For heavy advertising, you might have to spend some money. Check out your favorite e-zine's and sites for their rates.
